The entire process begins for CIE when a large organization, be it government, corporate, or even private, decides to liquidate its surplus and excess assets. Our acquisition department finds the product, purchases it or establishes a consignment contract, and the team goes to work.
CIE Surplus has a small but mighty fleet of box trucks, ready to deploy at a moment's notice. We send our trucks out, each truck usually manned by two of our warehouse guys.
Once on site, the crew quickly parses and does preliminary sorting of the cargo, palletizes the small items, loads the packed inventory onto the trucks, and brings it back to our warehouse in Berryville, Virginia for sorting.
Once the trucks arrive at the warehouse, the cargo is unloaded and triaged. That is, we immediately separate the incoming cargo into 3 lots: high priority/sensitive items that need to be handled right away, inventory to be processed with standard priority, and low priority items that will be broken down for their components.
The high and standard priority items are depalletized and organized onto carts to be cleaned and prepped for sale.
Any inventory that won't be dealt with right away is stowed into the pallet racking to be managed later.
The inventory that is to be resold is cleaned and put back onto carts to be inventoried and sold.
All of our inventory that is to be sold -- big or small -- is photographed and described on an individual basis, using our custom inventory application known as ListApp. This helps us track every single item from beginning to end.
Once items are inventoried, they are associated with a shelf location and are stored until they are sold. We resell the bulk of our items through eBay, but we also sell items on our website as well as through live internet auctions. Many of our items are also resold in deals with previous customers and other interested parties who stop by our warehouse or otherwise keep a check on our inventory.
A very important part of the process of internet sales is answering questions customers have about our products. We strive to provide the best service to our customers, and we're always on hand during business hours to answer questions from email, the phone, or even customers who stop by to visit the facility.
Once an item sells, it needs to be pulled from its current location and packaged for shipment. Small items are pulled from the shelf in bulk and prioritized on our conveyor. Our customized process virtually eliminates shipping mistakes and makes sure that all orders are processed in an efficient, timely manner.
Small packages are loaded onto carts to be put onto the truck during the daily pickup.
And freight items are palletized, strapped, and wrapped, then stowed to be loaded on the LTL trucks.
The last step in the process is to break down any equipment that can't be sold. It is separated into its recyclable parts. Above on the left are bins of scrap aluminum, and circuit boards. Above on the right is a bin of non-precious scrap metal. We strive to make sure nothing goes to waste.
The most important part of this process starts with excess inventory. If you are looking for a way to liquidate yours, give us a call or stop by our facility and check it out. We are diverse in that we can take inventory from a large variety of sources, and we can redistribute over an ever-broadening variety of channels.
We can do all the hard work and leave you with peace of mind, knowing your excess was properly used. Most importantly, the only work you need to do to make it happen is to give us a call -- 1 (540) 955-5740!
